Apple Valley (16-6, 20-7) opened postseason play by
defeating Park (0-18, 1-25) 83-47 in the Section 3AAAA
Quarterfinals Wednesday at AVHS.
The
Eagles led the entire game and opened up a double-digit lead
minutes into the game as 14 Eagles scored in the contest.
Tom
Schalk led all scorers with 27 points and grabbed seven
rebounds.
Isiah
Thomas added 14 points and Tyus Jones handed out 8 assists.
Valley
now advances to the Section 3AAAA Semifinals on Saturday at
the Skoglund Center on the campus of St. Olaf College in
Northfield. The Eagles will play Eastview (14-8,
16-11) at 6:00pm.

Regular Season Finale

Apple Valley (16-6, 19-7) dropped their regular season
finale to
Chaska (12-10, 15-11) 78-75 at Chaska on Friday.
The
first half saw 8 lead changes and seven ties before Valley
would lead 43-39 at halftime.
The
Eagles would lead by as many as 8 in the second half before
the Hawks would rally for a tie.
Valley
would build a five-point lead at the 3:18 mark but Chaska
battled back en route to the victory.
Tom
Schalk led all Apple Valley scorers with 25 points.
Three other Eagles were in double digits: Tyus Jones with
19, Zach Johnson with 16 and Isiah Thomas with 11.
Jones
handed out 11 assists and Schalk and Thomas each grabbed 8
rebounds.
Apple
Valley will now play Park (0-18, 1-25) on Wednesday in the
Section 3AAAA Quarterfinals. The Eagles earned the top
seed in the tournament and will play host to the eight
seeded Wolfpack at 7:00pm.

Regular Season Home Finale

Apple Valley (16-5, 19-6) defeated Bloomington Kennedy (3-18, 5-20) on
Tuesday at AVHS in their final regular season home game.
Kennedy
jumped out to an early lead before Valley rattled off 13
unanswered points to draw even then take the lead in the
first half.
After a
seven point halftime lead, Valley would extend the lead to
double digits en route to the victory.
Tyus
Jones led all scorers with 21 points and also handed out 7
assists.
Tom
Schalk posted a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds
while Isiah Thomas added 10 points.
Valley
closes out the regular season on Friday when they travel to
Chaska (11-10, 14-11) for a 7:15pm game.

Apple Valley (15-5, 18-6) got back on the winning track
Friday with a 78-71 win over Eagan (10-10, 14-10) at
AVHS.
The two
teams battled back and forth for most of the first half.
Valley would lead by as many as six points before taking a
four-point lead into halftime.
The
Eagles would push the lead to double digits in the second
half. The Wildcats would close the gap to five points
at the 4:49 mark.
In the
game's final 5 minutes, Valley would go 11-14 from the free
throw line to seal the win.
Tom
Schalk led all scorers with 26 points and also grabbed 14
rebounds.
Tyus
Jones also had a double-double of 20 points and 12 assists.
Zach Johnson and Isiah Thomas each added 10 points.

Apple Valley (14-5, 17-6) was upended by Lakeville North (13-7, 16-8)
64-62 in overtime on Tuesday at Lakeville North.
The
Eagles jumped out to an early seven point lead before North
came back in what would be a back and forth contest the rest
of the way.
In the
second half, Valley built a six-point lead with 6:11
remaining. North would come back to tie the game at
the 3:20 mark. The two teams would trade baskets until
the end of regulation.
In
overtime, the two teams exchanged baskets before the
Panthers pulled away.
Tom
Schalk led all scorers with 20 points. Tyus Jones
added 18 points and Isiah Thomas grabbed 11 rebounds.
Valley
now hosts Eagan (10-9, 14-9) on Friday at 7:15pm.

Apple Valley (14-4, 17-5) downed Rosemount (10-8, 13-9)
82-55 on Friday at AVHS in the first of three consecutive
games against Section 3AAAA opponents.
Rosemount's only lead of the game came after a three-point
basket in the game's opening minute.
Valley
would then lead the entire game, pushing the lead to double
digits as the second half progressed.
Isiah
Thomas led all scorers with 21 points. Tom Schalk
added a double-double 19 points and 14 rebounds with Zach
Johnson scoring 18 points. Tyus Jones handed out 13
assists.
The
Eagles now travel to Lakeville North (12-6, 15-7) on Tuesday
for a 7:15pm contest.

In Apple
Valley's game this evening at Bloomington Jefferson Tom
Schalk became just the third Eagle Boys' Basketball Player
to score 1,000 points in his career.
Needing
17 points entering the game, Schalk hit the mark with a jump
shot at the right elbow at the 16:40 mark of the second
half, en route to finishing with 29 points.
Schalk
now joins Matt Smriga, who scored 1,184 points from
1997-2000, and Aaron Ford, who is the All Time Leading
Scorer with 1,286 points from 2004-2007, in the 1,000 Point
Club.
Valley Falls at
Jefferson 68-65

Apple Valley (13-4, 16-5) traveled to Bloomington Jefferson (4-12,
4-12) on Tuesday
and were handed a 68-65 loss.
The game
was a back and forth affair from start to finish that saw 10
lead changes and 15 ties.
Isiah
Thomas' three-point play with 2:15 remaining put Valley up
by five.
Jefferson controlled the game in the final two minutes as
the scored the games final seven points en route to the
victory.

Schalk led all scorers with 29 points and also grabbed six
rebounds. Isiah Thomas added 14 points and seven
rebounds and Tyus Jones handed out 10 assists.
Valley

Apple Valley (13-3, 16-4) defeated Eastview (8-8,
9-11) 60-56 on Thursday evening at AVHS to complete a season
sweep of the Lightning.
Eastview
jumped out to a 12-3 lead to begin the game before Valley
closed the gap midway through the half.
Valley
grabbed the lead at 3:10 mark on back-to-back baskets by
Isiah Thomas and Gavin Bronson, both on assists from Tyus
Jones. A three-point play by Isiah Thomas would give
the Eagles a 29-23 halftime lead.
The
Eagles built a 13-point lead as the second half progressed.
Eastview would chip away at the lead before the game was
tied with 3:17 left.
After an
offensive foul on Eastview gave the Eagles the ball, Gavin
Bronson would hit a pair of free throws to give Valley a
lead they would never surrender and hold on for the victory.

Schalk led Valley with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Zach Johnson and Isiah Thomas each added 12 points while
Tyus Jones handed out 11 assists.
Valley
now travels to Bloomington Jefferson (3-12, 3-12) on Tuesday

Apple Valley (12-3, 15-4) got back on the winning track
Tuesday when they traveling to Eden Prairie (13-2, 17-2) and
came away with a 58-54 win.
Valley
grabbed an 11-2 lead to start the game, taking a seven-point
lead into halftime.
The
second half saw Valley open up a 13-point lead early before
Eden Prairie scored seven unanswered to close the gap.
The
final seven minutes of the game saw the two teams change
leads before Tom Schalk's basket with 1:08 remaining gave
Valley the lead. Tyus Jones would hit a pair of free
throws to seal the victory.

Jones led all scorers with 18 points and also handed out 11
assists. Tom Schalk posted a double-double of 12
points and 11 rebounds. Gavin Bronson had 12 points
and 8 rebounds and Zach Johnson added 9 points.
Valley

The season long six-game winning streak was ended Friday as
Apple Valley (11-3, 14-4) fell at Burnsville (4-10, 7-11)
79-76 in double overtime on Friday.
The
Blaze led for the most of the first half and the first
portion of the second half until Valley tied the game with a
pair of Tom Schalk free throws at the 7:30 mark.
Burnsville would extend their lead again before Tyus Jones
hit a three-pointer with 1:23 remaining to tie the game.
After
Burnsville missed a shot at the buzzer, Tyus Jones converted
a three-point play to begin overtime. After Burnsville
jumped ahead by one, Jones hit another three-pointer to put
the Eagles up by two but the Blaze would counter and the
game was headed to a second overtime.
The
Blaze controlled the second overtime session as Valley's
only points would come with 28 seconds remaining.
Tyus
Jones led all scorers with 33 points while also handing out
11 assists. Tom Schalk and Gavin Bronson each posted
doubles. Schalk scored 10 points to go with 14
rebounds while Bronson added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Valley
now travels to Lake Conference leader Eden Prairie (13-1,
17-1) on Tuesday for a 7:15pm game.

Storm by 19 for 6th Straight

Apple
Valley's (11-2, 14-3) season high winning streak was
extended to six games on Monday with a 82-61 victory at
Chanhassen (0-13, 2-15).
The
Storm led for most of the first half before Valley pulled
away for a 11-point halftime lead.
Valley
then extended the lead in the second half en route to the
victory.
Tyus
Jones led all scorers with 22 points and also handed out 8
assists. Zach Johnson and Tom Schalk each added 16
points with Josh Johnson grabbing 8 rebounds.
Valley

5 With Win Over South

Apple
Valley (10-2, 13-3) extended their season long winning
streak to five games on Friday with a 78-71 victory over
Lakeville South (9-5, 11-6) at AVHS on Friday evening.
The
Cougars led by as many as 11 points in the first half and
held a 10-point lead at the 4:41 mark.
Valley
outscored South 13-2 during the remainder of the first to
close the margin to one at halftime.
The
second half saw the two teams exchange leads until Lakeville
South led by five with 5:10 remaining.
The
Eagles grabbed the lead on baskets by Isiah Thomas, Tom
Schalk and Zach Johnson.
South
countered with an Alex Richter basket to lead by one.
Thomas answered the next possession by making a pair of free
throws before Richter hit one of two from the line to tie
the game.
Tyus
Jones hit a runner at 1:45 to give Valley the lead it would
not surrender.
Tyus
Jones led all scorers with 20 points and handed out seven
assists. Tom Schalk and Isiah Thomas each posted
double-doubles. Schalk scored 19 points and grabbed 12
rebounds while Thomas added 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Zach Johnson was also in double figures with 14 points.

Apple
Valley (9-2, 12-3) won their fourth straight game by
defeating Chaska 81-69 Tuesday evening at AVHS.
The Hawk
jumped out to an early before Valley scored 11 unanswered
points starting at the 11:20 mark.
Chaska
closed the gap to three points before Valley scored 13
unanswered points in the first half's final 3:30 for a 42-28
halftime lead.
The
Eagles would lead by as many as 21 points early in the
second half before Chaska went on a run of their own,
scoring 11 unanswered at one point.
The
Hawks would close the lead to four points but would get no
further as the Eagles held on for the victory.
Tom
Schalk led Valley with a double-double of 28 points and 11
rebounds. Three other Eagles registered double-digit
points, Tyus Jones with 23, Zach Johnson with 12 and Isiah
Thomas with 11. Thomas posted a double-double by
grabbing 10 rebounds to go with his 11 oints.
The
Eagles host Lakeville South (9-4, 11-5) Friday at 7:15pm.
Valley Wins at
Kennedy for 3rd Straight
Apple Valley (8-2, 11-3, #9 in 4A)
traveled to take on Kennedy (2-8, 4-10) on Friday night, and
came away with a tough 65-54 road win. Apple Valley jumped
out early to a 14-3 lead only to see Kennedy answer back
with six first half three pointers to take a 31-27 lead into
halftime. Valley answered back to start the second half by
scoring the first five points. From that point on, Apple
Valley never trailed and went on to a 65-54 win. Zach
Johnson displayed outstanding shooting going 5/6 from the
three point line to finish with 20 points. Tom Schalk added
20 points with Tyus Jones chipping in with 13 points.

Holds Off Eagan

Apple
Valley (7-2, 10-3) rallied and then held off Eagan (4-5,
7-5) for a 76-69 victory Tuesday at Eagan.
After a
back and forth first half, the Wildcats scored six
unanswered points to take a 39-34 lead into halftime.
In the
second half, the Eagles and Wildcats traded leads before
Valley grabbed the lead for good with 10 unanswered points
beginning at the 10:34 mark.
Eagan
would close the gap to four on two occasions but would get
no closer as the Eagles held on for the victory.
Tom
Schalk led all scorers with 28 points while also grabbing 13
rebounds. Isiah Thomas also posted a double-double of
14 points and 10 rebounds. Tyus Jones scored 16 points
while handing out seven assists and Gavin Bronson grabbed 10
rebounds.

AVHS on Thursday evening.
The game
opened with the two teams trading leads before the Panthers
opened up a five point lead before Valley closed the gap.

Schalk's jump shot at 1:29 tied the game then Valley grabbed
the lead with 42 seconds left in the half on a Tyus Jones
three-pointer.
The
Eagles scored the first seven points of the second half as
they built the build into double digits.
Valley
also held Lakeville North scoreless for the game's final
7:07.

Schalk led Valley with 34 points and 15 rebounds. Tyus
Jones had 18 points and 8 assists and Isiah Thomas added 11
points.

Valley (5-2, 8-3) fell 76-71 in overtime at Rosemount on
Tuesday. The loss ended a three-game winning streak
for the Eagles.
The
Irish took advantage of a cold-shooting Eagles squad in the
first half as the led from the start of the half to
halftime.
In the
second half, Valley closed the gap and took the lead as the
teams would battle back and forth before Rosemount tied the
game with 18 seconds remaining in regulation.
A pair
of Eagle three pointers in the game's closing seconds were
off the mark and the game went to overtime.
In the
extra session, the Irish scored the first six points.
Valley would come within three points but would get no
closer as Rosemount held on for the victory.

Jones led all scorers with 25 points and handed out 8
assists. Tom Schalk added 22 points. Schalk and
Gavin Bronson each grabbed 9 rebounds.

65-62 Friday evening at AVHS in their first home game of
2010.
After
the teams battled back forth for much of the first half,
Jefferson held a seven-point lead with 1:42 remaining.
Valley was able to cut the lead to just two points at
halftime.
The
Eagles would grab the lead as the second half progressed
before Jefferson made a run of their own as the teams
battled back and forth once again.
Tyus
Jones hit a jump shot at the 1:12 mark that gave Valley the
lead for good. Jones and Jordan Mackins each hit a
pair of free throws to solidify the victory.

Schalk led Valley with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Zach
Johnson added 12 points and Tyus Jones handed out 9 assists.

Apple
Valley (4-1, 7-2) traveled across town to open the 2010
portion of their schedule, holding off Eastview (2-3, 3-4)
for a 66-59 win.
After
the two teams exchanged leads for the first portion of the
second half, Valley took the lead at the 8:43 point on a
Tyus Jones free throw.
The
Eagles rattled off seven unanswered points in the final 1:38
of the first half to to take a 13 point lead into halftime.
The
opening minutes of the second half saw Valley build a
20-point lead but the hot shooting that built their lead to
that lead went away as Eastview slowly chipped away at the
lead.
The
Lightning would have the lead at single digits for late in
the second half but they would get no closer.
Tyus
Jones led all scorers with 21 points while also handing out
six assists. Tom Schalk added 14 points and 10
rebounds.

Eagles Finish
Third in Rotary Classic

Valley (3-1, 6-2) defeated Plainview-Elgin-Millville (5-0,
7-2) 79-70 in the Third Place Game of the Rotary US Bank
Holiday Classic at the Mayo Civic Auditorium in Rochester.
The
first half saw the two teams battle back and forth with 13
lead changes and five ties. Kent Egan's three-pointer
with under a minute left in the half tied the game at 35 as
the two teams headed into the locker room.
The
Bulldogs pulled ahead in the opening minutes of the second
half.
Zach
Johnson and Tom Schalk would lead Valley on a run of
12-unanswered points that would give the Eagles a
double-digit lead en route to the victory.
P-E-M
would close the gap in the game's final four minutes but
Valley went 12-14 from the free throw line to seal the
victory.
Tom
Schalk led Valley with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Tyus Jones had 18 points and 8 assists with Zach Johnson
adding 17 points.
Valley
returns to Lake Conference action on Tuesday when they

Stillwater Area (1-0, 6-1) defeated Apple
Valley (3-1, 5-2) 86-63 in the semifinals of the Rotary US
Bank Holiday Classic at the Mayo Civic Auditorium in
Rochester.
After
the games opening minutes the Ponies pulled away to a
double-digit lead before Valley brought the score to 34-31
at halftime.
Valley
was unable to find it's rhythm offensively as Stillwater's
lead grew as the game went on.
Tom
Schalk led Valley with 23 and 9 rebounds.
The
Eagles now face Plainview-Elgin-Millville (5-0, 7-1) in the
Third Place Game of the Rotary US Bank Holiday Classic at
3:15pm at the Mayo Civic Auditorium in Rochester.

Hands Valley First Loss

Eden
Prairie (4-0, 4-0) handed Apple Valley (3-1, 4-1) their
first loss of season Friday evening at AVHS by a score of
74-69.
The two
teams went back in the games opening minutes before Valley
pulled at the midway point of the first half en route to a
double-digit lead and a 40-30 halftime score.
Eden
Prairie's shooting touch caught fire in the second half as
they slowly closed the Valley margin. EP went a
12-point unanswered run at the 6:06 mark to take a two-point
lead they would not surrender for the remainder of the game.
Tom
Schalk led all scorers with 28 points while grabbing 13
rebounds for his fifth consecutive double-double. Tyus
Jones and Gavin Bronson scored 19 and 9 points respectively
and Isiah Thomas grabbed 10 rebounds.
Next up
for Apple Valley is the Rotary US Bank Holiday Classic in
Rochester December 28-30. Valley opens up play Monday
December 28 when they play Rochester John Marshall (0-2,
0-4) at University Center Rochester. Game time is
6:30pm.

teams battled back and forth during the opening minutes of
the first half before the Eagles built a double-digit lead
into halftime.

second half saw Valley lead by as many as 26 points before
Burnsville closed the gap to 10 points in the games closing
minutes.

double-doubles. Schalk scored 35 points and grabbed 17
rebounds with Jones scoring 15 points and handing out 14

non-conference victory at St. Louis Park (0-0, 0-1) on
Friday.
In a
game where they never trailed, Valley extended their 7-point
halftime lead to double digits the entire second half,
leading by as many as 24.
Tom
Schalk led the Eagles with a double-double of 33 points and
16 rebounds. Tyus Jones added 11 points, six assists
and six steals with Zach Johnson scoring 9 points.
The
